A few days back there were reports that Noida-based company Ringing Bells will be launching a handset which will be the world’s cheapest smartphone and will be available for a price tag below ₹500. But who knew that the price tag will be half of the ₹500 price tag as well and will be available for a mere ₹251.
Yes, just for ₹251 and believe it or not, the phone offers features no less than a phone available for thousands of rupees. The world’s cheapest phone known as Freedom 251 was unveiled at a launch event in New Delhi in the presence of top BJP ministers like MM Joshi (Kanpur MP) and Manohar Parrikar (Union Defence Minister).
The booking period of the smartphone is open till February 21, 8:00PM. The company expects to complete all deliveries by June 30, 2016.
The phone has highly solid features, keeping in view its mere price tag. The Freedom 251 sports a 4 inch qHD display and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor. The handset comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM, expandable up to 32GB. On the camera front, it comes with a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera.
The megapixel values may seem less in today’s world, but if the phone you are buying is just ₹251, having a camera too is a big deal. On the battery front too, it offers way more than expected- a 1450mAh battery. It is a 3G enabled device.
This device is truly a marvel and is really an unbelievable creation. It is tough to comment on its performance, but it surely will be a hit, thanks to its price tag. However, the thing which is bothering everyone is that how can the price of the Freedom 251 so low?
Our reading suggest that there will only be a small amount of units available which will be given to the users on first come first server basis.
Ringing Bells has deliberately priced the phone so low as to make its presence felt in the market. Earlier, we have witnessed several Indian and Chinese brands come and go without creating a buzz ever. However, keeping the prize tag so low, has created a strong hype in the media as well as the general public.
All in all, Ringing Bells has made a smart move by keeping the price tag of the Freedom 251 as low as Rs 251. The next device, if the brand survives, will be priced much higher.
