Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST Disk Launched

Seagate

SeagateIn an event held on Tuesday (25 March), Seagate launched two new products – Backup Plus SLIM and Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST. The USP of the latter disk drive is that it can read and write data at a mind blowing speed of 200 MB per second. No, these are not mere claims which the company is making but actually showcased it through a live demo.

The Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST comes with USB 3.0 interface which enables it to deliver such path breaking speeds. The best thing is that you need not plug in a separate adapter to the device. This is a big issue with several users in the current Seagate 2 TB hard disk drive. Moreover, the size of the 4 TB drive is really compact. It is almost the same size as that of the 1 TB hard disk available in the market.

Coming to the second product now, the Backup Plus SLIM external hard disk drive is a 2 TB affair. The USP of this drive is that it it really slim and light weight. We picked it up and felt like we are holding a smartphone for reviewing! The 2 TB drive is available in various colour options like black, silver, blue and red. It also makes use of USB 3.0 interface but the read and write speeds are not anywhere near the Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST.

We thoroughly checked both the hard disk drives. They are of premium quality. The material used is solid and at the same time the drives give a premium feel, especially the red and silver coloured ones. The best part is that they do not require any kind of external power source. The USB which is plugged in with the laptop is enough.

Seagate has also made available a new software for the Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST and the existing drives. Through this software you can upload any data to your Google Drive or Dropbox. Once you reach home and switch on your laptop or desktop and connect it to the internet, the data would get automatically backed up to the external hard disk drive. You would not need to configure things manually.

We wanted to clear our doubts whether the Seagate 4 TB Backup Plus FAST would have a less life expectancy due to its huge storage capacity. Mr Vermount Hoh, Senior Product Manager, Seagate Technology helped us with our concern. He said that these are simple myths amongst the users and the size has nothing to do with the life expectancy. In general, any device can malfunction if it is problematic.

SeagateThe devices are now available in the market. Below is the pricing.
