While splurging on gadgets an integral part which sneaks out of our inspection is the gadget’s break-ability. Most of us on shelling out a substantial amount have a misguided notion about the device’s breakability. If you are a proud owner of iPad Mini and nurture these misguided notions then, beware!
According to a recent unscientific study conducted by Square Trade Europe, the sleek and neat looking tablet is more susceptible to breakage when compared with other devices like Samsung Galaxy S4, iPad Air and Moto X. In short, the tablet could be termed as break prone iPad Mini.
In the study, these devices were subjected to accidents which they would come across in their lifetime. Some were dropped from great heights above the ground, while others were immersed in water. iPad Mini passed the test with flying colours with a breakability score of 7.5 (a cracked screen when first dropped) followed by Samsung Galaxy S4 with a score of 7. iPad Air secured the third most breakable device’s position with a score of 6.5 followed by MotoX with a break-ability score of mere 4.5. Other competitors in the list were Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 5C, Nexus and iPhone 5S.
And that’s not all, restoration of the break prone iPad Mini is difficult as well. In fact, it is considered to be the most difficult task to fix Apple’s small tablet. It is akin to MacBook Pro, easily breakable and difficult to repair. The screen is the only member which can be easily restored. Rest is a task and near about impossible at that! Once the entire device is pulled apart, the river of adhesive used to align the components makes repairing an iPad Mini challenging.
Then there are factors like a dainty LCD panel, an internal metal plate, relocation of digitizer cable, minuscule screws etc. which contributes to this difficult task. Rumour has it that Apple has plans to use a Sapphire Glass Display in its next-gen iPhone6. Prospective iPad users can only hope and pray for the same in the days to come. Till then, a protective cover is the only way to keep your break prone iPad Mini secure
