The Western Digital Corporation has announced a dual drive which comprises of a 120 GB SSD and a 1 TB external hard disk. It is new kind of hybrid device which would offer you the best of both worlds. As with any new technology, the WD dual drive is by no means cheap or stuff of the masses. Presently, the WD Black 2 costs $405 in the market.
SSD is a solid state drive is used to store data persistently. This basically means that the state outlives the process that went into creating that specific state. Thus, even when you power out the SSD, the data it contains remains intact. The SSD present on WD dual drive would help you not only store your operating system, applications and other software but also speed them up. The drive offers 6GB per second speed. At the same time, using the 1 TB hard disk space, you could store all your pictures, movies and data. SO, you must be thinking that the size of such an impressive thing must be quite large. No, not at all! The WD dual drive is only 2.5 inch big. Thus, it is extremely portble and can be used on your mobile handset, tablet or notebook on the go.
Now coming to the compatibility of this device. WD dual drive is compatible starting from Windows XP to Windows 8. WD is working on support for Windows 8.1 and Mac OS. WD is also offering a cable and a software so that you can make a clone of the content present on your earlier hard disk and transfer it easily to WD Black 2 without any hassles. We would say that this is a good move considering the fact that several a times people simply don’t upgrade to new technology only because of all the time they would need to back up their precious data and then upload it into their new device.
