Xiaomi has finally released its long awaited MiPad. This device was showcase next to Xiaomi’s new budget-friendly Redmi 2. The Xiaomi Mi Pad offers great power and functionality at a extremely low price point. So without any further ado let’s jump into its features!
As you can see in the images, the Xiaomi Mi Pad has an uncanny resemblance to the iPad mini. It has the identical screen size at 7.9 inches making it look like a plastic clad iPad Mini! The device is encased in plastic and the white variant looks like a blown up 5c and makes the device look a bit cheap. But again you can always snap on a case and change that.
The device again features the same display as found on the iPad mini 3, iPad air 2 and the Nexus 9. With a resolution of 1536-by-2048 the Xiaomi Mi Pad offers an eye popping 324 pixels-per-inch. 324 ppi may not seem much considering devices now offer 500+ ppi but a tablet is held further away from the eye as compared to a phone there by clustering pixels and making it look sharper. This is one of the sharpest displays ever in a tablet surpassing all other tablet in Pixels-Per-Inch. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
This is where the differences end between the iPad and the Xiaomi Mi Pad. This device features a Nvidia Tegra K1 which features a quad-core 32-bit 2.2 GHz processor. This may not seem like much but the real power lies in its GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). Most phones feature a dual or quad-core graphics unit but this device has 192 cores, which is much more than you will ever need for anything. It features a large 6700 mAh battery which should be enough to power the device for a long time as compared to other tablets.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad runs on Android KitKat with MIUI on top of it. MIUI offers a lot of extra functionality and tweaking to make the software more customizable and has its own theme engine. It is most likely to get the lollipop update sometime soon.
This device comes in two variants one with a 16 GB ROM and one with 64 GB ROM, India will be receiving the 16 GB variant but don’t worry the memory is expandable up to 128 GB. The Xiaomi Mi Pad features 2 GB of RAM so multi-tasking shouldn’t be a problem.
The device features an 8MP Sony-made BSI sensor which is known to produce some good shots in low-light scenarios as well as well-lit areas. A 5MP front facing camera is present which should make for some selfies and high definition video calling. Video recording from the rear facing is at a resolution 1080p.
The Xiaomi Mi Pad is a WiFi only enabled device which means that it doesn’t have a Sim card slot. It features dual-band Wi-Fi(2.4GHz and 5GHZ),Wi-Fi direct for fast speeds during online gaming or browsing. It also come with Bluetooth 4.0 but sadly no GPS support.
Pricing And Competition
The MiPad with 16GB internal storage will cost 12999 rupees and will go on sale on 24th March through e-portal flipkart.com. There is currently no tablet which offers the power and functions that the MiPad offers, the only device that come close is the Nexus 9 which costs double the amount for 16 GB of non-expandable storage.
Xiaomi Mi Pad is one of the most powerful devices on the market and at such a low price point it is bound to be a success.
